Track your Oddle Shop with Google Analytics (Universal Analytics)

The following guide is catered for users who have some familiarity with Google Analytics.

Google is sunsetting Universal Analytics on 1st July 2023 and replacing it with Google Analytics 4. We highly recommend our merchants to create a Google Analytics 4.

The Oddle platform offers a simple way to leverage on the power of Google Analytics for tracking of visitors, customer behaviour and other reporting purposes. With Oddle's built-in integration with Google Analytics, you can easily enable Google Analytics on your Online Shop without the need for adding a separate script code.


1. Getting Started Checklist

Before you begin, ensure that you have completed the following tasks:

  • Ensure that you do not have any Google Analytics related scripts running on your Oddle Shop. Having 2 or more instances of Google Analytics on your Oddle Shop may result in inaccurate tracking.

  • Note down your Google Analytics tracking ID. For help on finding your tracking ID, refer to this guide by Google.


2. Adding your Google Analytics Tracking ID

To enable Google Analytics on your Oddle Shop, you simply need to your add your Google Analytics tracking ID. To add your tracking ID:

  1. Navigate to the marketing module in your web dashboard (Menu > Marketing).

  2. Under "Shopping Cart Tracking" > "Google Analytics Tracking ID", paste your Google Analytics tracking ID.

  3. Click on "Save".

After adding your tracking ID, it may take up to 24 hours before yourGoogle Analytics is populated with data.


3. E-commerce Tracking

Oddle's in-built integration with Google Analytics means that Oddle automatically sends Google Analytics the following transaction data whenever an order is made on your Oddle Shop. For more information on Google's Ecommerce tracking, visit Google's documentation here.

Transaction Data sent to Google Analytics:

  • Order ID

  • Menu name

  • Total order amount

  • Delivery fee

  • Tax & Charges

  • Currency

  • Products

Enabling ecommerce tracking in Google Analytics

To ensure that the transaction data is included in your Google Analytics reports, you will need to enable ecommerce tracking at the view level. To do this:

  1. Navigate to the "Admin" from the side menu bar

  2. Select the appropriate Account, Property and View that you want to track

  3. Click E-commerce Settings

  4. Turn on the "Enable E-commerce" switch

4. Differences between Google Analytics and Oddle's Analytics

Given that both Google Analytics and Oddle use different methodologies and mechanisms for tracking, there will be chances where you will see variants between the statistics shown.

Below are some of the reasons why you may see discrepancies in the statistics:

  • Differences in how sessions, page reloads, unique visitors are defined and counted

  • Some customers may be using extensions which block tracking or have cookies disabled

  • Google analytics has different measures to filter non-human activity such as bots and crawlers
